Yesterday, Daphne posted a brief article containing a video by Alltime10s that featured a few questionable PR stunts. The original title for their video is “10 Unbelievably Dumb PR Disasters,” but I don’t think they’re all dumb. Maybe not-so-well-thought-out would better describe them, but I wouldn’t necessarily call every campaign that was mentioned dumb. But you can watch the video and judge that for yourself.
In any event, the one that piqued my interest was the unbelievable Adult Swim “bomb threat” fiasco that happened in Boston back in 2007.
Being a huge Adult Swim fan, I remember that stunt with the Aqua Teen Hunger Force character, Ignignokt of The Mooninites, and thought it was brilliant really. In fact, I vividly recall laughing my ass off at all of the ridiculous news stations reporting it — some of which were owned by the very same companies as Adult Swim.
Not many people even knew of Adult Swim’s existence before 2007, and the stunt — whether intentional or not — brought the network’s name into millions of minds and homes via mainstream media.
